Thanks to Leroy Sater's legacy, and a very generous gift from an anonymous donor, the Scholarship Committee at First Christian Church is please to announce six college scholarship awards for the 2016-2017 school year. After reviewing several applications and interviewing all of the applicants, the committee was extremely impressed with the academic qualifications, leadership attributes, and faith commitment of all the student-candidates. Service to others was a common theme that emerged from our meetings with all of these students. So, we consider it a privilege, and a sound investment in our shared hope for God's future, to be able to award each of the following exceptional students with a scholarship of five hundred dollars to help cover the cost of tuition and other educational expenses:
Tristan Smith, First year at Northwest Missouri State, Future High School English Teacher?
With past experience as a student council president and youth camp counselor, Tristan has demonstrated gifts for leadership and communication, combined with passion for helping youth learn how to use their "strengths and weaknesses to achieve a common goal."
Paige Burns, First year at Missouri Western, Future Reading and/or Science Teacher?
Josh Leibrandt, Junior at Missouri Western, Future Elementary Teacher and Administrator?
Audra Gustin, Senior at Lathrop High School, Future Student at Park University
During High School, Audra has succeeded in and out of the classroom. As a drum major, student council president, student-athlete, and employee, she has a proven aptitude for leadership as well as a heart for service. The last two years, she served on the Youth Leadership Team at Church Camp.
John Ezell, Senior at Lathrop High School, Future Student at Northwest Missouri State University
A member of the speech and debate team, FFA, athletics, and the National Honors Society in high school, John has already proven himself as a leader, communicator, and a team player. As a deacon and youth group leader, he also affirms: "faith is the only thing that can't be shaken."
